Odisha Government embarked on an innovative initiative aimed at enhancing transparency and integrity in the vehicle fitness testing process. An Automated Testing Station (ATS) was inaugurated at Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO), on Thursday.
According to official sources, this heralds a new era in vehicular regulation within the State. The advanced facility, developed with cutting-edge technical expertise, was assessed by Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, who expressed optimism about its crucial role in bolstering road safety.

Taking to ‘X’ handle, the Commerce & Transport department stated, “Paving the way for safer roads with the launch of Odisha’s first Automated Testing Station (ATS) at @Rtocuttack in #UtkarshOdisha #MIO2025! The automated testing aligns with national vehicle fitness standards, promising more efficient and reliable evaluations. The State plans to equip 21 RTOs, in regions including Boudh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Balasore, Koraput, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Rourkela, Keonjhar, Angul, and Bhubaneswar RTO-2, alongside an additional centre in Cuttack.
Comprehensive vehicle assessment is vital to ensuring roadworthiness and road safety. The ATS will perform essential checks prior to issuing fitness certificates and renewing registrations, in adherence to national regulatory standards.

Vehicles failing to meet the stipulated roadworthiness criteria will be deemed unfit for road use. This initiative is part of the Government’s broader goal to diminish road accident rates by enforcing stricter vehicle safety norms.
The inauguration ceremony held today notably included key figures including Commerce & Transport Department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, Additional Commissioners Dipti Ranjan Patra and Lalmohan Sethi, and Joint Commissioner Samarendra Pattnaik.
