'Assault' of Army Major, his fiancé: Odisha DGP orders case against ‘road romeos’ who assaulted the
The controversy surrounding the alleged custodial abuse of an Indian Army officer and his partner in Bharatpur police station, Bhubaneswar seems to be finally taking the right direction after Bhubaneswar DGP YB Khurania ordered a thorough investigation into the role of the ‘roadside romeos’ who attacked the couple and hurled abusive languages at them.
While the issue started after a few roadside romeos attacked the couple, used abusive language, and threatened them, it took an ugly turn after the cops at Bharatpur police station allegedly refused to lodge a complaint based on the statements of the Army Major.
After allegations and counter-allegations, YB Khurania finally directed the police to register a case based on the complaints of the Army Major and immediately apprehend the miscreants who misbehaved with the couple. The Army Major has accused the miscreants of even assaulting his partner while they were driving home from her workplace in Bhubaneswar.
“All the miscreants will be identified and strict action will be taken against them,” the DGP assured.
The Army officer and his partner had even noted down the registration number of one of the vehicles before seeking help at the Bharatpur police station. However, contrary to their expectations of swift action, the couple alleged that the police officers on duty refused to act immediately and also insisted they first file a written complaint.
Tension escalated after the couple urged the police to apprehend the miscreants first, leading to a heated exchange. Soon the situation worsened after the Army officer’s partner was allegedly taken into a separate room and stripped, molested, and physically assaulted.
On the other hand, the Army officer was also allegedly detained, physically manhandled and held in custody for over ten hours. The couple was also allegedly pressured to issue an apology before they were released after the intervention of senior Army officials.
