A shocking incident of armed robbery rocked Balasore district on Friday night after a jewellery trader was allegedly attacked with a machete and looted near his home.
The victim, identified as Pratap Sahu, owner of Babamani Jewellery at Markona market, was assaulted outside his residence in Riagaon under Simulia police limits. According to reports, four miscreants arrived in a car and allegedly struck Sahu on his hand with a machete as he was getting out of his vehicle.
Sahu, who had just returned after shutting his shop for the day, was carrying a bag filled with ornaments when the attackers snatched it away. The loot reportedly involved gold and silver jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees.

The injured trader was rushed to the Simulia Community Health Centre, where he is undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, Simulia police have launched an investigation and begun efforts to trace the culprits.
Gang Escapes With Ornaments Worth Lakhs
According to eyewitness accounts, the robbers executed the assault swiftly before making their getaway. As per police sources, the gang targeted Sahu after watching his routine and are verifying CCTV footage from the area.
Similar Loot Reported In Mayurbhanj
In a separate incident reported recently from Mayurbhanj, five masked miscreants broke into a house in Dewanbahali village under the Sharata police limits of the Udala area. The crime occurred around 1 am on September 13 when brothers Chandan Nayak and Ranjan Nayak were asleep.
The intruders allegedly held the duo at gunpoint, forcing them to reveal the location of cash and jewellery. The gang fled with Rs 15,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at over Rs 2 lakh. Before leaving, they locked the brothers inside and secured the main gate to prevent them from raising an alarm.
