A girl student of a government school in Balasore district accused her Mathematics teacher of persistent harassment and sexual misconduct, along with allegations of mental coercion and pressure.

Reports stated that the incident took place at PN High School in Chamara village, under the jurisdiction of Raibania police station.

According to the complaint, the girl, a minor, was subjected to obscene gestures and sexually inappropriate behaviour from her Math teacher for the past three months. The teacher reportedly threatened to fail her in exams if she resisted or revealed the abuse to anyone.

Allegations of Prolonged Harassment and Threat

Fearing academic consequences and social stigma, the girl initially kept the matter to herself. However, about eight days ago, she reportedly approached the headmaster of the school and informed him of the teacher’s conduct.

Shockingly, instead of taking appropriate action, the headmaster allegedly ignored or dismissed the complaint.

Traumatised by the lack of support, the student confided in her mother and expressed her unwillingness to return to school. Her mother stated that the girl was visibly disturbed and had begun showing signs of emotional distress.

On Saturday, the mother filed a formal complaint at Raibania Police Station. Accordingly, police detained both the accused Math teacher, Kailash Chandra Behera, and the school’s headmaster, Bhawani Shankar Pal, for further interrogation.

Police Probe Underway

Raibania police confirmed that the sections of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) and other relevant legal provisions may be invoked based on the outcome of the investigation.

Statements from the victim, her family, and the school staff are being recorded.
