A youth was arrested on Tuesday by Angul Sadar police on charges of impersonating a police officer and duping people of their hard-earned money. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Biranchi Narayan Naik of Kunjam village under Khamar police station.

Cheating Case With Job Fraud Angle

As per the allegations, Naik lured a youth named Mantu Sahu of Kankarei village with the false promise of securing him a job in a Talcher-based mine. He fraudulently took Rs 24,000 from him. 

Acting on the complaint lodged at Sadar Police Station, police registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Fake Uniforms And Forged IDs Seized

During the probe, police seized Rs 50,000 in cash, a motorcycle, a fake police uniform, stamps, and a forged identity card from Naik’s possession. He was subsequently forwarded to court.

Police Statement On The Arrest

Speaking on the case, Angul SDPO Ramakant Mahalik said, “The accused posed under different identities, at times impersonating a police officer using fake ID and Aadhaar cards, and duped people of money.”

He further said, “The victims of his deceit reported the matter to Sadar Police Station. Following the complaints, a case was registered, and the SP formed two teams to nab him. Based on the investigation, the accused Biranchi Narayan Naik was apprehended.”
