Besides gold ornaments and other valuables, the inner Ratna Bhandar has also weapons presumably used in battles fought by Puri kings and soldiers against enemies and kings of other states.

One day after the shifting of valuables from the inner treasury of Ratna Bhandar, Justice Biswanath Rath, chief of the high-level committee, in an exclusive interview with OTV on Friday revealed that the inner treasury also had some weapons like spears and spikes that were shifted to the temporary strong room.

He said they found the weapons stored in chests and almirahs. Since they have turned black, it is difficult to say the names of the material they are made of. After sealing them, they have been kept in the temporary strong room, he added.

He also informed that there were some crowns in the inner treasury. But he refused to say anything about the number of crowns and their kings.

“We have recovered some weapons like spears and spikes. Among others, we have also recovered some crowns. But I won’t reveal their number as I have taken a vow not to reveal that,” said Rath.

With these revelations, questions like how old they are, what are the names of the kings who were using them are being asked.

When asked, historian Ani Dhir said, “The ASI has the technology to ascertain how old they are. If they have any emblems, our historians can also throw light on them.”

However, despite the 11-member team terming the secret chamber and tunnel theory as rumour, suspense and curiosity still exist.

“Since the SOP is silent about it, we will request the government to add it to the SOP. Only after the approval of the government, we will proceed with the available scientific methods,” said SJTA chief Dr Arabinda Padhee.
