A bizarre case of alleged misuse of public health resources has surfaced from Gomundia village under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district, where a government-run 108 ambulance was found transporting rice sacks instead of patients.

According to eyewitnesses, the ambulance, bearing registration number OD07-AC-1926, unexpectedly entered the village and was soon seen being loaded with multiple bags of rice. Locals who questioned the activity were reportedly told that the vehicle was carrying ration rice, not for any medical emergency.

This shocking development comes at a time when ambulance shortages frequently impact patient care in the area. Villagers have expressed anger, stating that while patients are left waiting during emergencies, critical life-saving vehicles are being misused for non-medical purposes.

Images and videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism and raising serious questions about administrative accountability.

When asked about the incident, the Puri District Collector confirmed that a detailed inquiry has been initiated and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this unauthorized use of emergency services.

“I’m telling once again, we will take strict action if there is anything of such type is reported or brought to my notice. I have launched an enquiry; necessary action will be taken after the arrival of the report. This time the action will be strict, so that no one dares to repeat it in the future,” informed Dibyajyoti Parida, Puri District Collector.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for transparent monitoring of government resources, especially in essential services like healthcare.
