Serious allegations of irregularities surfaced against the blood bank at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput district, sources said on Thursday.

The issue was brought to the forefront by the district blood donors and motivators forum, which submitted a formal memorandum to the District Collector, seeking immediate intervention.
The forum expressed deep concern over repeated irregularities in the functioning of the blood bank and urged authorities to initiate prompt corrective measures.
The memorandum demanded strict monitoring and transparency to ensure that blood donation and distribution processes are handled ethically and efficiently.
“Several patients from 3-4 neighbouring districts are coming to the health facility since the day when the medical college and hospital was set up in this district. Hence, there is a heightened need of blood. Accordingly, our volunteers have been organising blood donation camps and providing ample of blood,” the outfit secretary, Sheikh Abraham, said.
“But, whenever patients need blood, their attendants are being asked to bring donors (to get blood in exchange). From where would they find donors, who are coming from rural and remote areas? They are facing utter difficulties,” the outfit secretary stated.
“The most unfortunate thing is that volunteers, patients and their attendants coming to the blood bank are often subjected to misbehaviour,” Sheikh Abraham expressed.
No comments were received from the blood bank authorities in this regard.
Worth mentioning, a severe shortage of blood at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur district, is causing significant disruption for patients coming to the health facility.
In particular, individuals from Western Odisha and the bordering state of Chhattisgarh are being impacted due to the acute shortage.
