The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved three projects of the Ministry of Railways with a total estimated cost of Rs 6456 crore to be completed by 2028-29.
The three projects will cover seven districts in four states including Odisha and will generate direct employment for about 114 lakh man-days during construction. The projects in four states of Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh will also increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 300 km.
Speaking to media persons, Ashwini Vaishnaw thanked PM Modi.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “10 years ago, the average construction pace in Railways was 4 km per day. Today, it is 14.5 km per day of railway lines being constructed. 5300 km of railway lines were added to the existing network last year. All sanctioned railway projects will be completed in the next 4.5-5 years.”

On the Railways recruitment calendar, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Railways has already advertised close to 45,000 vacancies in first and second quarter employment notifications. In the last recruitment cycle, 1,54,000 people were given jobs in the Railways.”
