An 80-year-old woman from Kusabari village under Lakhnapur panchayat in Ambabhona block of Bargarh district has been allegedly declared dead in official records, resulting in the stoppage of her pension for the past three months.
The woman, Bedamati Nayak, is very much alive and continues to support her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren with the little pension she used to receive.
Speaking to reporters, she expressed her distress, saying, “Though I’m alive, I have been declared dead. As a result, I haven’t received my pension for three months. I used to buy medicines with that money.”
She further said that even though her grandson visited Ambabhona block several times and raised the issues, nothing happened.
The reason behind this error and who is responsible for the false death entry remains unclear. Bedamati’s family now faces financial hardship due to the halt in pension payments.
Ambabhona BDO Lalit Bag has stated that a proper inquiry will be conducted, and only after the investigation will it be known how such a mistake occurred.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered local outrage, with villagers demanding immediate correction and resumption of her pension.
