After major controversy, puja performed at Bharatpur police station; new IIC takes charge

The Bharatpur Police station in Bhubaneswar has been in the news for the past several days following the alleged assault and torture of an Army Major and his fiancee.

The Odisha government on Monday ordered a Judicial inquiry into the incident. Amidst the mystery of whether CCTV cameras were installed at the Bharatpur police station prior to the incident or were removed deliberately, new Inspector-in-charge Dipak Khandayatray took charge of the police station today.

Interestingly, a puja was conducted by the concerned police official for almost two hours. In his reaction, the IIC said, “The ritual was his personal choice to attain peace before assuming charge of the Bharatpur police station.”

When asked several CCTV cameras were lying unused at the Bharatpur police station, the new IIC said that all these were installed at the old building of the police station.

“The entire Bharatpur police station will have CCTV cameras which will be installed at all sensitive locations as per the Supreme Court guidelines,” said the IIC.

The priest, who conducted the puja, said, “I was called to do a puja. Today, all the rituals were performed for ‘Naba Graha’ shanty and to ward off any obstacles.”
