Two accused, who had escaped from the Gop police station in Odisha’s Puri district, were re-arrested by police on Friday. The duo, Krishna Sahu and Suryakant Mohanty, were initially taken into custody for breaking the shutter of a shop and committing theft in Sorisiapada village under the Gop police limits.

However, on the evening of July 29, around 7 pm, both men requested to use the toilet. Once inside, they executed a pre-planned escape by breaking the skylight, which was old and weak. One of them reportedly wrapped a towel around his fist and punched the skylight, managing to shatter it. They then climbed out through the opening and fled from the police station premises.

Joint Operation Conducted

On the instructions of Puri SP, two teams were formed to apprehend the fugitives. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Chari Chhak IIC, Gop IIC, and Nimapada IIC. After an intensive search operation, both accused were successfully nabbed on Friday.

Accused Linked To Multiple Criminal Cases

According to reports, the duo was already known for their involvement in multiple criminal activities. This burglary was not their first offence, and several complaints had been previously lodged against them. Their criminal history includes a number of snatching and minor theft cases. Both are aged between 20 and 25 years.

They were arrested for breaking the shutter of a shop owned by Manoranjan Das in Sorisiapada village under Gop and looting several items. This burglary led to their arrest before they escaped. While cash and goods were taken during the theft, no stolen items or cash were recovered.
