Accused attempts suicide in police custody, admitted to SCB in critical condition

A person, arrested by Badachana police on charges of circulating obscene photos of a girl, attempted suicide in police custody on Thursday. He is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

According to sources, police had nabbed Iswar Sethi, a resident of Sindhupur under Mahanga police limits for circulating obscene photos of a girl. He tried to end his life in police custody. He was rushed to Badachana hospital before being shifted to SCB in Cuttack. 

However, questions are being raised as to why he took such an extreme step.

Priyabrat Panda, Medical Officer of Badachana, said, “Police had brought a patient to Badachana hospital in a low-lying condition. I provided first aid treatment and referred him to SCB.”

Sub-divisional Police Officer of Jajpur Road Sanjay Kumar Patnaik said “A complaint was lodged against him. Police had arrested him on charges of circulating obscene photos of the girl apart from blackmailing and threatening her with life. A case (5/23) was registered against him. He attempted suicide and was admitted to SCB.
