Until recently, she was known as Sai Shreemayee and her address was ‘Servants of India Society, an orphanage located in Choudwar in Cuttack district.
From now on, she will be known as Sai Meenakshi and her new address will be Germany as she has been adopted by a childless NRI couple.
A couple hailing from Karnataka and settled in Germany adopted the one-year-old baby on Thursday, in presence of Cuttack Collector, Bhabani Shankar Chayani.
A year ago, her biological mother abandoned her. However, destiny had something good in store for her. Now, she will be brought up in Germany, enjoying all the luxuries of life.
Saraven and Subhashini have been married for 16 years now. They had everything in their lives except parenthood. Eventually, they decided to adopt a child. Six years ago, they applied for a child through the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). They didn’t have any gender choice.
After the completion of all formalities, they adopted Sai Shreemayee in presence of Cuttack district Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and other officials.
“Since it is an inter-country adoption, we had to go through all the formalities. We had a seminar. We had a home study. Then we had psychological and medical tests. After all the formalities were over in Germany, the next part was CARA approval. Then we contacted the local adoption agency here. And procedure started slowly. One by one documents got approved,” said a visibly delighted Subhashini.
Her husband, Saraven said, “We are very happy. We had been waiting for this day for a long time. Six years ago, we got ourselves registered at the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) for adoption. Finally, on the basis of seniority, the government has allocated the child. Luckily, we got it from Odisha. We had applied for any kid-a boy or a girl. Finally, we have received a girl child. We, me and my wife, are happy.”
“Mr. Saraven and Mrs. Subhasini have happily adopted a baby girl named Sai Minakshi from the Servants of India Society. I wish her the best of luck. May she live a good life over there, study well and bring glory to Cuttack, Odisha, and to the nation,” the district Collector wished.
