On the occasion of the 97th death anniversary of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, a tribute ceremony was held at the Odisha Legislative Assembly premises in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi paid floral tributes at the statue of Gopabandhu Das and reminisced about his contributions to society.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi lauded Gopabandhu’s selfless service and immense contribution to the community, urging everyone to follow the noble path shown by the legendary leader.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, and Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, among others.

"I pay my tribute to the great soul of Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das on his 97th death anniversary. Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das was not only a freedom fighter but also a visionary social reformer. Based on his attitude of service, our government is giving special focus to Viksit Odisha," said CM Majhi.
Legacy of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das
Notably, Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das (1877-1928) was a prominent social reformer, freedom fighter, journalist, and litterateur from Odisha. He was a key figure in the Indian independence movement and is highly revered in Odisha. He was given the title 'Utkalamani,' meaning 'Jewel of Utkal'.
Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das also played a significant role in establishing press freedom in Odisha. Gopabandhu Das' legacy continues to inspire people in Odisha and beyond. His dedication to social justice, education, and the freedom movement has made him a true 'Jewel of Utkal'.
