In a rare incident, a group of fishermen had their prized possession when they caught a total of nine giant ‘Telia Sila’ fish while fishing at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal near Digha bordering Odisha.
Much to the delight of the fishermen, the rare fish weighing 1.990 quintals were sold for a whopping price of Rs 15 lakh. The fish were sold for Rs 7,500 per kg.
The rare fish were caught in the net of Baba Saheb Trawler, owned by Sekh Rohimul, who is a resident of Nandigram area of West Bengal.
There was a huge rush in the market to have a look at the rare fish. Eventually, a Kolkata-based company bought them at Rs 15 lakh.
The fish were bought at high prices as they have immense medicinal value.
As per experts, this species of fish usually prefers to move in deep sea and it is rarely caught in sea mouth. The value of the fish is determined by its gender and weight. The fish is used for preparing life-saving medicines.
