In a major boost to the State’s education sector, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is poised to distribute appointment letters to newly recruited teachers on June 6. The move reflects the government’s commitment to filling long-vacant teaching positions.
This was informed by School & Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Wednesday.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister will distribute appointment letters to some selected Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) alone, and a total of 826 PGTs will be appointed in a ceremonial event, Nijukti Mela (Job Fair).
Fulfilling staffing needs in schools
Minister Gond emphasised that the recruitment process is a continuous effort by the State government to address teacher shortages across Odisha. He further noted that filling vacant teaching posts remains a priority to ensure quality education in government-run schools.
“Chief Minister will hand over appointment letters on June 6 through a Nijukti Mela, and 826 PGTs will be given appointment. We had previously noticed that several vacancies existed in different schools, and those were running with a minimum number of teachers. However, after the new (BJP-led) government assumed office, appointments are being given to the eligible candidates to fill the vacancies,” the Minister said to OTV.
“Highest number of appointments is being given in the education sector, as compared to all other sectors and recruitments made at all times,” the Minister added.
Worth mentioning, in a move aimed at strengthening the State’s education system, Odisha’s S&ME Minister Gond had earlier announced on March 28 that the Government will soon recruit 10,000 more teachers. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education and address the shortage of teaching staff in government schools.
A step towards quality education
Speaking on the matter in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister had highlighted that the new government has already appointed more than 18,000 teachers since it came to power. The recruitment drive will further enhance the teaching workforce, ensuring that students receive proper guidance and support in their academic journey.

Apart from hiring teachers, the Minister had also acknowledged the need for non-teaching staff, such as peons and clerks in the government schools. He had assured that necessary recruitments would be made after assessing the specific needs of different schools.
