As many as eight persons have tested positive for cholera in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts. As per official sources, out of the 41 stool samples collected, eight have tested positive for cholera. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja directed that water-testing and sanitation activities be completed within 10 days to curb the spread.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government announced a major initiative to control the spread of waterborne diseases, including malaria, diarrhoea, dengue, and cholera, during ongoing rainy season, an Information & Public Relations (I&PR) department press release said on Friday.

According to the official sources, the State government launched a comprehensive initiative to address the rising concerns of waterborne diseases such as malaria, diarrhoea, and cholera, which are more prevalent during rainy season. This campaign aims to strengthen preventive measures, enhance sanitation practices, and raise public awareness.

In a bid to tackle the rising threat of waterborne and vector-borne diseases during monsoon season, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja today directed an expansive, result-driven action plan at a high-level inter-departmental meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan. The meeting, which included top officials from several key departments, outlined crucial steps to prevent the outbreaks and enhance public health response across the State.

Addressing the urgent need for preparedness, Odisha Chief Secretary Ahuja stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to combat diseases like diarrhoea, jaundice, malaria, and dengue, which are common during the monsoon months. Key health and administrative officials from Health & Family Welfare, Housing & Urban Development, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, and other vital departments came together to review ongoing measures and formulate subsequent steps.

Addressing cholera outbreak in Jajpur and Bhadrak

The high-level meeting also highlighted an urgent public health situation in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts, where several cases of diarrhoea have been reported. Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health, assured that medical teams are actively working in the affected areas. Meanwhile, the Health Secretary emphasised the importance of community-level awareness and swift disease management.

The meeting was attended by District Collectors and Chief District Medical Officers from across Odisha, including representatives from the affected regions of Jajpur and Bhadrak, where containment measures are already underway.
