662 Category teachers to participate in Plus II answer sheet evaluation
The 662 category college teachers will participate in the evaluation of Plus II answer sheets. Golak Nayak, the president of the 662 Category College Teachers and Employees Association, informed about the decision on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, Nayak said the discussion with the government with respect to their demands for which they have been protesting for the past 55 days has been deferred to a later date as the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary are away on a Japan tour.
“Since the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, and Minister Pratap Keshari Deb are away on a foreign trip, we, after considering the students’ future, have taken a decision to participate in the evaluation. But our demonstration at the Lower PMG would continue,” said Nayak.
“Our strike entered its 56th day today. We will continue our strike even if it completes 206 days. Our strike will continue till our demands are not met,” he added.
Notably, the 662 category college teachers have been staging a sit-in at the Lower PMG, demanding ‘equal grade, equal salary’. They had earlier threatened to boycott the Plus II examination management.
On February 28, a delegation of agitating teachers met Odisha Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari. An inter-ministerial committee held a threadbare discussion on the agitating teachers’ demands. Later, the teachers were assured that the government would take a decision after discussions.
Following this, the agitating teachers put aside their Plus II Examination boycott threat and participated in the examination management.
Now when there was suspense over their participation in the evaluation and students were worried a lot, the association’s decision has come as a huge relief for students.
