Ahead of the scheduled visit of 5T Secretary VK Pandian’s visit to Dhenkanal, scores of BJP leaders and members held a protest meeting on Tuesday. Wearing black clothes, the BJP leaders staged a demonstration alleging ‘murder of democracy’ and hijack of power by the 5T Secretary.

Former MP Rudra Pani said, “Reactions are now coming from places wherever the 5T Secretary is going. The secretary is junior in IAS cadre. We do not know whether the CM is conscious or not. People are reacting over the political style of visit of the secretary; and, powers of MLAs and Ministers have been curtailed. BJP, as the main opposition, is playing its role and has organised such protest meetings.”

District BJP President Naresh Mohapatra said, “We are staging protest against the way a secretary is visiting and murdering democracy; and everything is happening even when the CM is alive.”

“Democracy has been murdered and the 5T Secretary has made a mockery of the democracy. He has put CM Naveen Patnaik under house arrest by hijacking power. Crores of rupees are being spent for the 5T Secretary’s visit and the local MLAs, Ministers and MPs are making arrangements for his visit,” alleged former BJP MLA Krushna Chandra Patra.

Patra further said that if CM Naveen Patnaik is unable to tour the districts, 'we want to ask whether all the MLAs and MPs are inefficient'.  “We are observing a black day as democracy is being disrespected by organising such events by the secretary,” Patra added.

No response from the BJD could be obtained over the allegations levelled by the BJP leaders.
