As part of the ongoing process to increase the tiger population, 5 Royal Bengal tigers will be brought from two different states to Debrigarh and Similipal in Odisha. PCCF wildlife, Susanta Nanda on Wednesday informed that the tigers will be brought from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Earlier, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) had given its nod in this regard.
“We had requested Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra for the tigers and they have given their consent. The tigers have been selected from the core area as well,” said Nanda.
According to Nanda, a team from Odisha will be visiting the states to see the animals and we anticipate that the programme to increase the genetic poll at Similipal by September end.
Pair Of Giraffees For Nandankanan Zoo
Under the approved animal exchange programme, two giraffes will be brought to Nandankanan Zoo, informed Nanda. At present, there is only one giraffe here and the new animals will be brought from Alipore Zoo, he added.
