A total of 32 cases of girl student harassment have been registered across nine districts of Odisha, informed School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gand in the State Assembly on Friday.

In a written reply, the Minister informed the House that Kandhamal district reported the highest 11 number of cases, followed by Sundargarh with four. 

Ganjam, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Keonjhar districts recorded two cases each. One case each has been filed in Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, and Kalahandi. In addition, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, and Nabarangpur districts reported one case each, the Minister informed.

The Minister assured the Assembly that all cases are being investigated thoroughly and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with state laws and regulations. He added that schools are being monitored to prevent such incidents, and teachers and staff are being sensitised about student safety and harassment protocols.

The disclosure has drawn attention to concerns over student welfare and the safety of children in educational institutions. Legislators and activists have stressed the need for preventive measures, including awareness programs for students and stricter enforcement of disciplinary policies.

With the number of cases spread across multiple districts, authorities have been urged to strengthen monitoring systems, ensure timely reporting, and maintain transparency in handling complaints. The state government emphasized that student safety remains a top priority and that all efforts will be made to address grievances swiftly and effectively.
