In a huge set back to the left wing extremists, at least three Maoists were killed in a gun battle with security personnel on Odisha border.
As per reports, the ultras were neutralised at Kanker district in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning.
After getting an information from reliable sources about the presence of Maoists in Koyalibeda forest, a joint team of CRPF and Kanker police launched a massive operation in the area.
Subsequently, an exchange of fire broke out between the security forces and Maoists which lasted for nearly two hours.
As per reports, the Maoists retreated from the area following an intense firing by the security personnel.
As per police sources, bodies of three rebels and some Maoist articles have been recovered from the encounter site so far. The search operation is still underway.
As per reports, as many as 50-60 CRPF jawans and Kanker police personnel were deployed in the operation against the Maoists. At least 30-40 Maoists had set up camps in the area for some days.
The development is said to be a big success for the police as the Maoists were often attacking the police personnel in the area for the last few days.
Earlier a few days back, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has dealt a body blow to the Maoists with a holistic approach to development and security and left-wing extremism is now breathing its last.
