As many as 508 railway stations in the country including 25 in Odisha will be redeveloped soon. A total of Rs 532 crore has been allocated for the redevelopment of the 25 stations in the State and a target has been set for the completion of the work till March 31, 2024.

The stations to be redeveloped are Lingaraj Temple Road in Bhubaneswar, Mancheswar, Talcher Road, Khordha Road, Kantabanjhi, Bargarh Road, Hirakud, Rairakhol, Barapali, Muniguda, Bolangir, Harisankar Road, Bhawanipatna, Khariar Road.

Under the project, all the stations will be redeveloped as city centers. Apart from it, a roof plaza, shopping zone, food court, kids play area, multi-level parking, escalators, executive lounge, and special facilities for divyangas will also be available in these stations.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the redevelopment of 508 railway stations in the country started today with a total cost of more than Rs 25,000 crore. It’s a great news that as many as 25 stations in Odisha will be redeveloped with Rs 532 crore in the first phase,” said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

“Hirakud railway station will also be redeveloped soon. In the second phase, Sambalpur City will be redeveloped. In the third phase, Sambalpur main station will be redeveloped,” he added.

“It’s a good news for all the people of the country that a total of 508 railway stations will be redeveloped and modernized. The Prime Minister has laid the foundation stone for it. I am hopeful that 25 stations in Odisha will be redeveloped well,” said Rajya Sabha MP Munna Khan.

Meanwhile, Odisha Congress said that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme should not be stopped midway and should be implemented properly.

“Amrit Bharat Station Scheme should not be stopped midway and it should be implemented properly. The Prime Minister should keep his own words,” said senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra.
