Several trains have been cancelled due to landslides following low-pressure-induced incessant rainfall in Odisha’s Koraput district, official sources said on Wednesday.
Normal life in Koraput was thrown out of gear as heavy rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system led to landslides in several areas, thereby affecting train services.

According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources, the ECoR cancelled several trains, including Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express and Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Night Express, after a portion of the railway track between Koraput and Jeypore was blocked by landslides.
In a statement, the ECoR said that due to incessant rains, landslides occurred between Maliguda-Jarati stations in the Koraput-Kirandul line of Waltair Division.
Railway officials rushed to the site to assess the damage and begin restoration work.
Meanwhile, the heavy downpour has led to a sharp rise in water levels of several rivers and streams, submerging roads and disrupting vehicular movement, the sources added.
“Heavy earth-moving machinery, manpower, and other materials have been mobilised. Restoration work is being carried out on a war footing,” a railway official said.
A temporary bridge near Bangalaguda under the Koraput block was submerged early in the morning, with nearly two feet of water flowing over it.
Road connectivity between Koraput and Rayagada was also snapped due to water flowing over the stretches of the national highway.
Passengers are advised to check the train status updates before making travel plans.
Notably, the same region had experienced a landslide last year as well. During the ongoing double-line construction, part of the hill had been cut, making it vulnerable.
