Odisha Vigilance officials have caught as many as 199 government officers on corruption charges in the past 15 months, as the new government in Odisha, led by the BJP, has intensified its drive against corruption.

As per reports, 77 disproportionate assets cases and 122 bribery cases were registered during this period. Assets worth Rs 202 crore, deemed disproportionate to the income of the accused, have been seized so far.

In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Tankadhar Tripathy in the Assembly, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi informed that 3,661 corruption cases are still under trial in different courts, while 722 cases remain under investigation in the last five years.

The statistics underline the scale of pending cases, even as the Vigilance department continues its operations against corrupt officials.

According to reports, the Vigilance action has not been limited to lower-level staff but has extended from clerks to officers in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and even the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). This consistent action has reportedly triggered unease among other officials suspected of corrupt practices.

Clear Message Against Corruption

The current government has signalled a clear stance by actively pursuing corrupt officials and tightening monitoring mechanisms. Continuous raids and legal action against government officials are being viewed as part of a broader effort to ensure transparency in administration.
