As many as 167 migrant workers, including 50 children and 47 women from Odisha, who were engaged at a brick kiln at Jagatpalli in Telengana’s Pochampalli areas, were rescued on Monday night.
Telangana State Police on Tuesday informed this in a tweet.
The Criminal Investigation Department of the Telangana State Police received an SOS from a civil society named Samata on the distressed condition of migrant brick kiln labourers at Jagatpalli under Pochampalli area. Soon the Pochampalli police station was alerted.
Acting swiftly, a team from Pochampalli police station, SHO Vikram Reddy, Pochampalli revenue inspector, labour department officials, officials from an NGO and a team from CID, RO Nalgonda led by DSP B Erna visited RRR Brick kiln at Jagatpalli of Pochampalli area. The cops carried out a search operation and rescued 167 labourers-70 men, 47 women and the rest 50 children.
During the investigation, it was found out that the rescued labourers are from Odisha. After being served with food, the labourers were sent to Bolangir by train.
