15 injured in jackal attack in Odisha’s Ganjam

More than 15 people, including seven women, were injured in a jackal attack in the Polsara range of Ganjam district on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Hatioata, Jemadipur, and Pranapuradeipura villages.

More than 15 people, including seven women, were injured when a jackal attacked them in the Polsara range of Ganjam district on Wednesday.

The attack occurred in the villages of Hatioata, Jemadipur, and Pranapuradeipura. The injured were admitted to Polsara Hospital, where they received necessary treatment.

According to reports, the jackal attacked villagers as they were on their way to their farmlands and the canal that morning.

One of the injured, Murali Parida, said he was returning from taking a bath in the canal when the jackal attacked him from behind, biting his leg and hands. Parida also mentioned that the jackal had attacked and injured around 20 to 25 people in the village.

Meanwhile, fearing further attacks, villagers are hesitant to venture out of their homes.

Notably, there has been an alarming rise in wildlife attacks in several regions of India. Recently, there were multiple reports of attacks by wolves and jackals in Uttar Pradesh.

Since March, at least 10 people have been killed and 51 injured in wolf attacks in Bahraich district of UP. Additionally, jackals have terrorized a pocket of central Uttar Pradesh, killing a baby after mauling six adults in Sultanpur district.
