Action has been taken against as many as 125 SHGs for supplying sub-standard ‘Chhatua’. While replying to a question of MLA Kalikesh Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida informed this during a session in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

She also informed the House that the Women and Child Development Department has issued show-cause notices to 63 Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and supervisors, following the testing of ‘Chhatua’ samples at the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhubaneswar.

As per sources, the crackdown came in response to concerns raised over the quality of nutrition supplements provided to vulnerable sections, particularly women and children, as part of social welfare programmes.

The government’s actions underscore its dedication to maintaining the quality of essential supplies, with penalties to be enforced against those found responsible for the lapses.

The ongoing monitoring of food standards aims to prevent future occurrences and protect the well-being of recipients.

Worth mentioning, the Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on August 31 had directed the Women and Child Development Department Minister Pravati Parida to initiate action against the erring supply agencies.

The move from the Speaker came after BJP MLA from Digapahandi Sidhant Mohapatra raised questions over the ‘Chhatua’ quality in the House and asked what steps have been taken by the government to ensure good quality ‘Chhatua’ is provided to the children.
