1 killed, 2 critical as under-construction roof collapses in Odisha

In an unfortunate incident, while one labourer was killed, two others were critically injured after an under-construction roof collapsed while they were working on it in Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.

Moreover, it is suspected that three to four of the workers are still trapped under the debris.

The injured were initially admitted to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

As per reports, some workers were reportedly engaged in the construction of the roof of a five-tier building beside NH-55 at Mahisapata Chhak in Dhenkanal. However, the under-construction roof of the portico caved in all of a sudden due to some unknown reason.

While some of the workers were trapped under the debris, others had a narrow escape. The trapped workers were soon rescued by the people present on the spot in critical condition. However, one of them died on the spot while two others suffered critical injuries. They were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Fire service personnel, police and some officials of the district administration reached the spot and started the rescue operation. An NDRF team also reached the spot. Moreover, one ODRAF team from Cuttack was also on its way to the spot to expedite the rescue operation. 

Police officials started an investigation into the incident after reaching the spot.
