A CRPF jawan, who dedicated his life to serve the nation, went to glory after setting an example for others.
Forty-eight-year-old CRPF jawan, Krushnachandra Mohabhoi, a resident of Sarua in Khordha district was declared brain dead on March 20 while he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Afflicted with kidney disease two years ago, Mahabhoi was undergoing routine dialysis. However, on March 20, his condition turned critical and he was admitted to a private hospital, where he was declared brain dead.
Immediately, his family’s permission was taken for organ donation. Two important organs including the heart and liver were removed which would be used to save the lives of two other persons.
As per reports, his heart was immediately sent to Tata Memorial Hospital in Kolkata and his liver to Reliance Hospital in Mumbai for transplantation.
Mahbhoi is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and parents.
His 20-year-old son and his kith and kin were crestfallen after his death. However, they were happy that the organs of Mahbhoi would come in handy in saving two lives.
His son Satyabrata Mahabhoi said, "I am happy over the fact that the heart of my father will be transplanted in the body of another person. My father was a jawan. We are proud of our father. He used to serve people and I want him to serve people even after his death.”
Dr Alisha Choudhury, consultant of Critical care medicine, SUM Ultimate Medicare, said, "He had massive brain bleeding all of a sudden on March 20. He was under 48-hour observation and on ventilator support. However, his brain activities were not detected. We contacted his family to check if they want to donate his organs.”
Dr Prabhas Acharya, president of Body and Organ Donation Society, said, "This is good news. We have information that his heart was transplanted.”
People are becoming aware of organ donation with cases of organ donations increasing in Odisha.
On March 3, a Class-III student Subhojit Sahu of Kalpana area in Bhubaneswar was declared brain dead and his family donated his eight organs.
Similarly, the kin of Om Sibu, a Plus-II student of Nayakote village of Kendrapara, donated two kidneys while the family members of Rajendra Singh, a student of Jadunathpur in Mayurbhanj, donated an eye after his death.
In a bid to encourage organ donation, the Odisha government has announced to give full state honours to organ donors during their funeral.
