A construction mishap in Bhubaneswar’s Pokhariput-Lingaraj Vihar locality left one dead and two others critically injured as a roof collapsed during a house renovation work on Tuesday. Rescue teams managed to pull two workers out alive, but their conditions remained serious.

According to sources, as many as three construction workers were buried under the debris when a roof collapsed during a house renovation work in Lingaraj Vihar of Pokhariput. The collapse occurred as an old roof gave way during the ongoing construction.
“Two of the workers were rescued alive, but are in critical condition and receiving medical treatment. Unfortunately, one worker lost his life in the accident,” some locals said.

Authorities have confirmed that the roof caved in while the allegedly rundown house was undergoing restoration. Rescue operations were promptly launched, and it has been confirmed that no additional individuals were trapped under the debris.
Pokhariput police reached the spot and initiated a probe. Further investigation is underway to determine whether safety protocols were followed during the construction activity or not. Police have seized the body and sent it to hospital for post-mortem.
No comments were received from local police or the house owner in this regard.
Worth mentioning, at least three persons, including an engineer and two labourers, died while two others were injured after a concrete slab fell on them during construction work for a bridge over the Kathajodi River in Cuttack on May 3.

The incident occurred near Khannagar when a ready-made slab, which was being lifted by a crane, collapsed, leading to the deaths.
