In an act of bravery and compassion, Kerala forest department officials managed to rescue four toddlers and their parents belonging to a tribal community who were stranded in a cave atop the hill in the aftermath of the Wayanad landslides.
A four-member team led by Kalpetta range forest officer K Hashis braved incessant rain and rocky terrain to rescue the tribal family which included four kids aged between one and four. The rescue mission took a total of eight hours of trekking.
As per reports, the family from the Paniya community was stranded in a cave atop the hill overlooking a deep gorge amid dense forest for five days. The forest officials found the mother wandering to find food for her children and their father who were stranded in the cave. Subsequently, the woman led him to the cave where the entire family had taken shelter. They had not eaten anything for the last five days.
The road to rescue the tribals was literally a steep slope, that too amidst heavy rainfall. The officers had to tie ropes to trees and rocks to climb, which was hazardous. The children were hungry and tired. Upon returning to the Attamala anti-poaching camp, the children were fed and given clothes.
Images and videos of the rescue operation have gone viral on various social media platforms. The rescue team has earned massive praise for their bravery in rescuing the tribal family by putting their own lives in danger.
