The Indian Railways has come up with specialised features in Vande Bharat Express which is all set to start its operation in cold conditions.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity, Railway Board informed that the Vande Bharat Express is fully equipped with new features and specially designed for operation in cold mountainous areas.

According to Kumar, special focus has been given to various safety features in the train. The objective is to ensure that the operations are not affected during snowfall in the Kashmir valley. ‘

“The loco-pilot cabin and the screen have all been specially designed. Heaters have been installed to keep coaches warm and the system has been set up so that water does not freeze,” Kumar told ANI.

Official sources said that there are embedded heating elements in the windshield so that the driver's front lookout glass gets automatically defrosted ensuring clear visibility.

However, the launch date of the train service has not been decided as of now, but the necessary arrangements have been made. The railway line is ready and so is the Chenab Bridge, he added.

Meanwhile, the final speed trials on the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project were held today as part of the mandatory inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).

Final speed trial through Anji Rail Bridge - the country's "first cable-stayed bridge" of Indian Railways connecting Katra and Reasi, and Chenab Rail Bridge - the world's highest railway bridge were held.
