In a major counter-terror operation, security forces have eliminated Hashim Musa, the alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam terror attack, in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Mahadev’, was carried out jointly by the Indian Army and the J&K Police in the Lidwas area near Srinagar.
Hashim Musa, a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was earlier associated with the Pakistan Army before joining the terror outfit in 2022. He played a crucial role in planning and executing the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen.
According to official sources, Musa was also involved in the Sonmarg tunnel attack and had become a key figure in orchestrating terror activities in the region.
The encounter took place in Lidwas, a densely forested area on the outskirts of Srinagar, which is known to be a hideout for TRF (The Resistance Front) operatives.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the forces launched a coordinated offensive under Operation Sindoor, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists, including Musa. Security forces confirmed that the operation is still underway, with combing and clearance operations continuing in the region.
This development marks a significant success for India’s counter-insurgency efforts in the Valley and comes as a strong message against terror networks operating in the region.
