In view of the problems faced by Central Government Servants (CGS), the Centre has changed the time-limit for submitting Travelling Allowance (TA) claims on retirement.
As per a circular issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, the time-limit has been extended from 60 days to 180 days. The rule is now effective from June 15, 2021.
Earlier, the time-limit for submission of claims for TA on tour, transfer, training, journey on retirement was changed from one year to 60 days, succeeding the date of completion of the journey.

“Several references have been received by this department regarding extension of time-limit for submission of TA claims in r/o journeys performed by retired employees and their families for going to home town/ place of settlement after retirement as difficulties faced by the retired government officials while claiming reimbursement of TA on retirement within a period sixty days of completion of their journey,” the circular, dated June 15, read.
As per the circular to all ministries and departments, such issues were considered and in partial modification of the OM dated 13.03.2018, it has been decided that the time-limit for submission of claims for TA on retirement is modified to 180 days from 60 days, succeeding the date of completion of the journey.
The time-limit for submission of TA claim on tour, transfer on training will remain 60 days. However, the claims not settled due to time-limit of 60 days in terms of the 2018 order on the subject, may be considered by the concerned Ministry/ department, the last month’s circular read.
