Railway has cancelled several trains owing to low occupancy and surge in Covid-19 cases across the country during the second wave of the pandemic. But as the daily infections have started showing downward trend in most of the States, a decision has been reportedly taken to restore some special train services from this month to ensure smooth mobility of passengers.
For the convenience of passengers, the Northern Railway has decided to run several Special Trains across few routes of the zone.
All norms of the states and Centre regarding Covid-19, including social distancing, sanitization etc, must be followed in the trains and at the Railway stations. All other precautionary measures associated with Covid-19 should also be ensured, said the Northern Railway in its official notification.

Some of the special train services along with details of train number, routes, frequency are as follows:
- Train Number 01057 will start from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj T on 16 June, 2021.
- Train Number 01058 will start from Amritsar on 19 June, 2021.
- Train Number 02047 will start from Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj (T) Kolhapur July 6, 2021.
- Train Number 02048 from Hazrat Nizamuddin on 8 July, 2021.
- Train Number 05279 from Saharsa Junction on 13 June, 2021.
- Train Number 05280 from Anand Vihar on 14 June, 2021.
- Train Number 05127 from Manduadih on 14 June, 2021.
- Train Number 05128 from New Delhi on 15 June, 2021.
- Train Number 04240 from Varanasi Junction on 11 and 13 June, 2021.
- Train Number 04239 from Lokmanyatilak Terminus on 12 and 14 June, 2021
Meanwhile, the Railway is contemplating to allow train passengers with a Covid-19 vaccination certificate instead of negative RT-PCR report. A person can also show his/her vaccination certificate on Aarogya Setu app.
Sources claimed that this has been suggested to the Ministry of Railways by several states and any confirmation in this regard is likely to come by June 15.
Earlier on June 6, Minister of Civil Aviation (MoCA) Hardeep Singh Puri had also said that a joint team from several ministries and stakeholders, including the Health Department, were in discussion on allowing air travellers without an RT-PCR test for those who have received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
At present, domestic passengers will have to mandatorily produce a negative RT-PCR report before travelling to some states, where active Covid-19 caseload is still high.
