Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon all Indians to take pride in purchasing and selling Swadeshi products, stressing that India’s journey toward prosperity is tied to the spirit of self-reliance.
His message came during an address to the nation on Sunday, on the eve of the Navratri festival.
Self-Reliance Key to a Developed India
PM Modi underlined that India’s aspiration to become a developed nation cannot be achieved without adopting the principle of self-reliance. He placed special emphasis on the role of Made-in-India products in shaping the country’s future.
“To achieve the goal of a developed India, we must walk the path of self-reliance, and our MSMEs bear a significant responsibility in making India self-reliant,” he said, highlighting how small and medium enterprises form the backbone of the nation’s economy.

Boost to Domestic Manufacturing
The Prime Minister urged citizens and businesses alike to focus on producing goods locally, especially items that can be manufactured within the country.
“What the people of the country need… what we can make in the country itself… that we should make in the country,” he said. This, he noted, would not only boost employment but also reduce dependency on imports.
Swadeshi Spirit for National Prosperity
Drawing a parallel with India’s freedom struggle, PM Modi recalled how the mantra of self-reliance once strengthened the independence movement. Today, he said, the same philosophy can drive India’s prosperity.
“Just as the mantra of self-reliance strengthened the country’s independence, similarly, the prosperity of the country will also gain strength from the mantra of self-reliance,” he added.
PM Modi’s call for Swadeshi is not just an economic vision but also a cultural reminder that the strength of the nation lies in valuing its own capabilities.
As India steps into the festive season with renewed energy, his message reinforces the idea that every small choice made by citizens from buying local goods to supporting domestic businesses can collectively shape the nation’s journey towards self-reliance and prosperity.
