Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 early on Friday morning.
In fond tributes to his mother following her death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday he always felt in her the presence of a trinity combining an ascetic's journey, a selfless doer and a life committed to values.
PM Modi's mother Hiraben passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday. Modi who was scheduled to visit West Bengal left for Ahmedabad after the demise of his mother.
However, the programmes will be held as per plan as PM Modi may join the pre-planned West Bengal events through video conferencing.
She was admitted to Ahmedabad's UN Mehta Hospital after her health deteriorated.
UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre said in a statement, "Hiraba Modi passed away on December 30 at 3.30 a.m. (early morning) during the treatment at UN Mehta Heart hospital."
Prime Minister Modi recalled that when he met her on her 100th birthday, she had told him: “work with wisdom and live with purity”.
The PM took to Twitter to inform about the demise of his mother.
"A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values," the Prime Minister posted a heartfelt tribute informing about his mother's death.
Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi. The prime minister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during his visits to Gujarat.

'A loving mother who gave the most precious diamond for the nation...', tweeted Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "For 100 glorious years, Heeraben Maa blessed us all with her affection. She was a symbol of simplicity, humility and conviction. As she leaves for heavenly abode, with teary eyes, i join millions in prayers. May her blessings always be with us @narendramodi."
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also took to Twitter to express his condolence.
Expressing grief, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said mother's demise creates a void in life that is impossible to fill.
"I am deeply pained by the passing away of Hira Ba, mother of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi. The death of a mother leaves such a void in one's life that is impossible to fill. I express my condolences to the Prime Minister and his entire family in this hour of grief," Singh said in a tweet.
Paying tributes, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said it was the values which Hiraben imparted to her family through a difficult life full of struggles that has given the country a leader like Modi.
Her simple and compassionate image will always be with us, he said.
Amit Shah and JP Nadda also expressed their condolences.
Similarly, Democratic Azad Party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed condolences and wrote, "Saddened to hear the demise of Smt. Heeeraben, mother of PM Shri @narendramodi ji. I know that words are of little solace at such times. However, my heartfelt condolences to Hon'ble Prime Minister. I also pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul."
Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Smt. Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Sri @narendramodi ji on the loss of his beloved mother. Our thoughts and prayers are witht eh entire family in this hour of grief."
