Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to Birsa Munda on his death anniversary, saying he sacrificed his life for the welfare of the tribal community and protecting their rights.
His sacrifice and dedication will always inspire the people of the country, Modi said in a post on X.
Munda led a tribal movement against the British rule's repression and died in British captivity in 1900 at the age of merely 24.
An iconic tribal figure considered divine by his followers, Munda's birth anniversary on November 15 was declared to be annually commemorated as "Janjatiya Gaurav Divas" by the Modi government in 2021.
