The nation today remembered Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 126th birth anniversary with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying rich tributes to the great freedom fighter.
The birth anniversary of the great revolutionary, who was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, is officially known as Parakram Diwas or Parakram Divas.
President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to Netaji and said he epitomises exceptional courage and patriotism.
“On Parakram Diwas, we pay homage to one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Netaji epitomises exceptional courage and patriotism. Under his leadership, millions joined the struggle for India's freedom. Indians will remain forever indebted to him,” the President tweeted.
“Today, on Parakram Diwas, I pay homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and recall his unparalleled contribution to India’s history. He will be remembered for his fierce resistance to colonial rule. Deeply influenced by his thoughts, we are working to realise his vision for India,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote.
While paying tribute to Netaji, Home Minister Amit Shah said the whole country salutes his courage and struggle.
BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda also paid tribute to the freedom fighter and wrote ‘Salute to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great leader of the freedom struggle, on his birth anniversary.’
He shared a famous quote of Netaji which reads, “Nationalism is inspired by the highest ideals of the human race, satyam (the truth), shivam (God) and sundaram (the beautiful).”
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Netaji Subhas Bose’s extraordinary patriotism, valor, and sacrifice for the country will continue to inspire generations to come.
On Parakram Diwas, Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in a ceremony to name the 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees on 23rd January at 11 am via video conferencing.
During the programme, Prime Minister will also unveil the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep.
Keeping in mind the historical significance of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and to honour the memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Ross Islands was renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep by the Prime Minister during his visit to the Island in 2018. Neil Island and Havelock Island were also renamed as Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep.
Noted sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sculpture at Puri beach to pay tribute to the hero of the freedom fighter.
“On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, our humble tribute to one of the greatest leaders of India’s freedom struggle. My installation Sand Art at Puri beach in Odisha,” he wrote.
