India’s defence preparedness received a significant boost as the country successfully test-fired its Prithvi-II and Agni-I missiles. These back-to-back achievements underline India’s growing prowess in indigenous defence technology and strategic deterrence.
Prithvi-II and Agni-I Validated in Odisha
On July 17, the Defence Ministry announced the successful test-firing of Prithvi-II and Agni-I missiles from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. Conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, the tests validated all operational and technical parameters.
“Short-range ballistic missiles, Prithvi-II and Agni-I were successfully test-fired, demonstrating the robustness of our strategic arsenal,” the ministry stated. These trials reaffirm India’s readiness and operational effectiveness in maintaining a credible deterrent.
Akash Prime Triumphs in Ladakh
A day earlier, on July 16, India achieved another milestone with the successful high-altitude test of the Akash Prime missile in Ladakh. This upgraded variant of the Akash weapon system is customised to perform at altitudes above 4,500 metres and features advanced upgrades, including an indigenously developed radio frequency seeker.
The trials destroyed two high-speed aerial targets, proving the system’s efficiency in the challenging terrain near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the Indian Army, DRDO, and industry partners for this “remarkable achievement,” calling it a major step forward in enhancing India’s air defence capabilities.
A Strategic Leap Forward
With these successful tests, India not only strengthens its missile arsenal but also reinforces its ability to defend high-altitude frontiers and maintain strategic stability. Together, these advancements mark a significant leap in self-reliance and defence innovation.
