A chilling incident has sent shockwaves through Kutch district of Gujarat, where a 22-year-old man brutally killed a 19-year-old college student after she ended their relationship and blocked his phone number.
The victim, Sakshi Khania, a resident of Adipur, was attacked on Thursday outside her college on Airport Road in Bhuj. According to investigators, the accused, Mohit Siddhpara, enraged after being cut off, confronted her with a knife, fatally slitting her throat before fleeing the scene.
From Love to Tragedy
Police said Sakshi and Mohit were neighbours and had been in a relationship for some time. On Thursday, Mohit reportedly called Sakshi, asking her to return to Adipur. She refused and, following her mother’s advice, blocked his number.
Infuriated, Mohit reached her college later that day, where he confronted her. When Sakshi told him she no longer wanted any relationship with him, his anger spiralled out of control, leading to the violent attack.
Swift Police Action
Bystanders rushed Sakshi to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts by doctors, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police R.D. Jadeja confirmed that Mohit was arrested the same night.
Initially charged with attempted murder, the case has now been upgraded to murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A Community in Shock
The horrific incident has left the community stunned, raising urgent questions about the rise of violent crimes rooted in obsession and rage, and the safety of young women in public spaces.
