From Colonial to Contemporary: India's legal system set to enter a new era on Monday

India is set to implement three new criminal laws on July 1, replacing colonial-era codes. These laws aim to modernise the justice system with features like Zero FIR, online police complaints, and electronic summonses. The Ministry of Home Affairs has undertaken extensive preparations for their implementation.

India is now set to enforce new criminal laws, replacing colonial codes. The three new criminal laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam -- will be implemented nationwide on Monday (July 1).  

They are set to replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
