Emergency a blot on India's Constitution: President Droupadi Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu called the 1975 Emergency a major attack on India's Constitution during her Parliament address. She emphasized that despite numerous challenges, the Constitution has endured and continues to be central to governance. Her remarks come amid ongoing political tensions between BJP and the Opposition.

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that the Emergency imposed in 1975 was a blot on India's Constitution. 

Addressing the joint sitting of Parliament, she said, "The Emergency in 1975 was the biggest attack on the Constitution of India and a blot on it."
