A Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight on Sunday returned to Patna airport after a fire was spotted in the aircraft. All the 185 passengers in the aircraft are reportedly safe.

As per reports, the Delhi-bound flight returned to Patna airport after locals noticed a fire in the aircraft and informed the district and the airport officials.

All the 185 passengers are safely deboarded. The reason behind the same is a technical glitch and the engineering team is analysing further, said Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation later informed that the Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight had to return to Patna as a bird hit prompted fire in one of the engines of the aircraft and hence, the pilots then shut down the engine as per the procedure.

Speaking on the incident, Director of Patna airport said, "An alternate flight is being arranged by SpiceJet airlines. This incident is a matter of investigation."
