West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who won the 2021 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections with her popularity among female voters, is on the back foot after the inhumane rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Protesting doctors have been demanding CM Mamata's resignation. 'Petty politics' by the TMC government has led to unrest in West Bengal and caused fresh challenges to her. Amidst all this, a video of one of her alleged supporters threatening RG Kar Hospital staff has gone viral on social media.
The video shows the man claiming to be sent by ‘Mamata Didi’ and asking the staff to call her. With his hands in his pocket, the man seems to be threatening the staff even as they request him to lower his tone.
He has been identified as Afsar Ali Khan, former RG Kar Hospital Principal Sandip Ghosh's enforcer from Belgachia. He has reportedly built an empire off syndicate cash, now flaunting a Rs 40 lakh car at R.G. Kar Hospital.
West Bengal BJP accused him of syndicate-fuelled corruption.
“Last year, this muscle-for-hire was seen in the Deputy Superintendent's office, speaking with Dr. Manas Banerjee, the Principal. This is the ugly face of syndicate-fueled corruption—pockets lined, power unchecked, and the system rotting from within,” BJP shared.
“How long will these syndicate kingpins keep hijacking our institutions?” the Opposition party in West Bengal questioned.
Meanwhile, angry netizens demanded the CBI to arrest the man and take stringent action against him.
“Who knows the man also may be involved in the murder of lady doctor🤔 First unconscious theory > suicide theory > hurriedly cremated >evidence tamper & for huge scam, the home & health minister of WB should be called for interrogation!” shared a user.
Another user wrote, “He should be arrested and drilled by the CBI to find out what he knows and who gives him orders.” “Goondas directly appointed by the supremo!! Democracy??” questioned another user.
Meanwhile, no comment could be obtained from the TMC over the allegations of the BJP.
