On Monday night, a wave of geopolitical unrest sent shockwaves through international aviation as IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, suspended multiple Middle Eastern routes, including the newly inaugurated Bhubaneswar-Abu Dhabi-Bhubaneswar direct flights.
Flights 6E 1442 and 6E 1441, which connected Odisha’s capital to the UAE capital, were directly impacted by the sudden halt. This service, launched with much fanfare by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on June 12, symbolized a growing bridge between the state and the Gulf.
The airline cited escalating tensions in the Middle East, following a major military offensive by Iran on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a retaliatory act after the U.S. joined Israel in striking Iranian nuclear sites.

In a statement released early Tuesday morning on social media platform X, IndiGo informed passengers that its operations across a dozen Middle Eastern cities, including Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Madinah, and Jeddah, were temporarily suspended. The situation developed rapidly as several Middle Eastern nations shut their airspace in anticipation of further hostilities, paralyzing a large swath of commercial air traffic.

International airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, and even global players like Virgin Australia, scrambled to adjust flight routes or delay schedules as the crisis deepened.
IndiGo: Calibrated Return to Normalcy Underway
By Tuesday morning, IndiGo began cautiously resuming select operations as conditions stabilized slightly and airspaces gradually reopened. “We are prudently and progressively resuming operations on these routes,” the airline said, emphasizing a safety-first approach. They assured passengers that all available flight paths are being scrutinized for safety and security.
Travelers were also urged to stay updated via the airline’s mobile app or official website for real-time changes. While flight operations are slowly recovering, uncertainties linger due to the volatility of the situation in the Middle East.
