According to Deccan Herald, the BDA’s response comes amid growing scrutiny over its regulatory positioning and its relationship with RERA. Despite relieving the lawyer of duty, the BDA has publicly reiterated its commitment to continue operating 'under the regulator’s ambit', indicating its willingness to remain aligned or at least formally cooperative with RERA procedures.

What The Incident Means?

The incident underlines tensions arising from the BDA’s unique role as a statutory authority. As a public planning body overseeing layouts and development in Bengaluru, the BDA’s relationship with RERA has often been ambiguous, with aspects of its mandate overlapping or diverging from the central real estate regulation framework.

While the BDA’s sacking of the lawyer underscores a tightening of internal control and communication protocols, its reaffirmed pledge to act within RERA’s realm suggests an effort to maintain procedural legitimacy and avoid potential legal complications.

The incident leaves open questions about how the authority will navigate future interactions with regulatory bodies when divergent interpretations of jurisdiction arise.
