Accusing police excess in the alleged custodial death of a youth in Bargarh, sanitation workers in Bolangir have called for a cease-work protest in the district.
Odisha Ghasi Bikash Mancha (OGBM), a State-level rights group has resorted to demonstration demanding justice to the family of Gobinda Kumbhar who died under mysterious circumstances during treatment while being under police custody on September 25.
The rights outfit has urged all safaiwalas to halt the sanitation work in Bolangir for a full day as a mark of protest in delay in deliverance of justice to the bereaved family of Gobinda.

Sanitation workers have been urged to join the protest and put pressure on the police administration to conduct probe into the alleged custodial death in a time-bound manner so that the culprit(s) can be brought to the court of law.
The Case So Far:-
According to reports, Gobinda was picked up by police on the night of September 24 in connection with a quarrel case filed at the Town Police Station on July 20 earlier this year.
A day after the incident, he died under mysterious circumstances at Bargarh district headquarters hospital.
Family members of the youth alleged that he was tortured in police custody that led to his death.
Two days later, Bargarh SP requested the ADG, Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) to conduct an independent probe into the incident.
On October 3, Bargarh SP relieved five police personnel of duty and attached them to reserve.
A day later, Bharat Vikash Parishad has filed a petition in Orissa High Court seeking investigation into the alleged Bargarh custodial death case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a neutral agency.
